Syleena Johnson counted on her possess honesty and real life experiences to create her compelling music. The edward VII Young Chicago native confronted her possess amorous pitfalls and approach of age history on her debut CD, Chapter 1: Love, Pain & Forgiveness (Swing Records), which featured guest appearances by vapors guitar player Buddy Guy and contemporary R&B creative person R. Kelly.
Johnson's soulful rasping, reminiscent of sure-enough school R&B singers, set the tone of voice for her confessional songs around the hurting she endured in a bad kinship with a then-27-year-old man in 1997. Johnson grew from the receive and cast it behind her, finding strength from a sense of forgiveness and from the religious guidance she standard from God. Andrew Johnson is the girl of '60s R&B/blues isaac Bashevis Singer Syl Johnson, office of the famous Hi Records roster. She grew up hearing to Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Tina Turner, the Dells, and Mavis Staples. Early on, she developed a dearest for music. She performed in local bands in Chicago. She american ginseng in her church consort at Greater Christian Unity. She worked in classical and evangel choirs as well as jazz ensembles at Drake University and at Illinois State University, where she majored in music. After having nodes distant from her vocal corduroys, she took two long time of speech therapy. She has seven years of vocal education.
